Mattel's Matchbox Rocky the Robot Truck is an interactive dump truck designed for children ages three and older. Talking, driving, lifting, dumping, and even dancing, this toy dump truck is a boy's robotic companion. Speaking over 100 phrases, Rocky has a clever line for everything. You can do all the work by hand, or get him to help out.

Built with strong, durable plastic, Rocky is ready to handle heavy loads. Your child can manually tilt his dump bed to unload it -- or make some noise and he'll do it for you. And when you push Rocky forward or pull him backward on all six wheels, his blue headlights are activated and he'll make some noise of his own, with engine sounds and honking.
The smokestack on the front of the truck is the primary way to control this robot truck. Tilting the lever back gets Rocky to stand on his back four wheels. The truck is automatically set in dump mode, but pressing the red button on top of the smokestack several times will switch it to dancing mode, where he'll shake his upper truck body to music. Pushing the lever forward returns Rocky to a normal truck position.
The red button also cues Rocky to say one of his many phrases or jokes, and also wakes him up if he's taking a nap. If you don't play with Rocky for a while, he will go into sleep mode -- a may even snore. Kids get Rocky's attention by placing objects in his dump bed, or by pushing or pulling him.
Make Some Noise!
Rocky is very responsive, interactive, and engaging -- often prompting kids to make noise so he can show off his dancing and dumping skills. Because you can play with him manually or with his help, Rocky makes playtime easy and simple. However, with only one button for a couple of operations, Rocky's automatic modes may take some getting used to for younger children. They may have a difficult time getting directly past the robot's talking to get to the dancing mode.

At that age, what his peers think about him is important. He'd want to be with the in crowd. To have what the cool kids in school have. Maybe a cell phone or an Mp3 player. Or the super yo-yo. Or whatever's the current craze in school.
What he likes is not necessarily what his father liked when he was ten years old. Dad may have loved Lego sets and Star Wars when he was ten years old. If you ask a ten year old today if he'd like a light saber or something from Star Wars for Christmas, he's likely to give you a blank stare.
The in-thing now that my ten-year old and his pals are crazy about are nerf guns.
Boys love weapons. Toy guns or anything they can shoot with, or fight with will go well with the boys. But the parents may not like such gifts. Especially if the kids end up breaking and aged vase or something as costly in the home, while playing with these Christmas gifts.
Parents would be much happier if you get the kids practical gifts. Like clothes. Or pajamas.
At that age, boys do get particularly disappointed when they unwrap the gift, to find that it is a new set of pajamas or some clothes or stationery. Boring. Unless the boy does like dressing up and you happened to pick an outfit he in fact loves. If you know the boys taste and size perfectly and he is the sort who likes dressing up, then get him clothes. If not, then get a safer gift.
Is the boy into sports?
If he is totally into soccer or baseball or basketball, does he like to play the game or watch it?
If he has a favourite team, a gift that features his team or his favourite player would be well received. If he loves the game, get him new gear.
Match the gift to the boy's interest and he would be delighted when he opens your Christmas gift.
